Book Review for Body on the Doorstep by @martywingate @Bookouture

This mystery was a slow burn for me, but with that said the author kept me turning the pages. The investigation part of the book took time to get going, but the ending made my investment pay off. I look forward to seeing where the author takes the series from here. (Check back tomorrow for my review of book two.)

This book was the first in a new series and follows Mabel on her various small jobs. It’s during the first of such jobs that the groundwork for the story is set. She’s hired to help at a wake for a man who had been missing for seven years. But during an unexpected turn of events, Mabel answers the door and a man falls inside the entry floor. Dead. Murder is immediately suspected, but finding his killer going to be challenging. The man is without ID, but on his person is a letter addressed to the widow, supposedly from her missing, now presumed dead, husband.

Mabel starts to poke her nose in when the police hit a wall, and soon finds that she herself may be in danger.

The story wraps up with a neat, feel-good bow. The ending is what made me interested in seeing where the series will go from here. You can read what I thought of book two tomorrow.

A Body on the Doorstep is a historical cozy mystery with a modern-day heroine you will want to follow.

Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley, and the author for an advanced reading copy.
